About Applewood Farm & Winery
Applewood Farm & Winery has made fruit wines, cider and mead for more than 26 years, using fruit and honey from its own farm and from neighbors. The family business recently moved to a new farm on Saintfield Road in Seagrave, just north of Port Perry. Recent bottles include a 25th anniversary mead, a crabapple and pear cider, a strawberry liqueur and the Eden, Trio and Elora's Harvest wines, alongside honey from their bees, jams and jellies.
The farm is open from May to December 20, and picking follows the season, from strawberries and mulberries early on to pumpkins and squash in fall. On fall weekends from late September through Halloween, plus Thanksgiving Monday, $13 admission for ages 3 and up covers the 30-acre corn maze with about 3 kilometers of trails, a sunflower walk, and one pumpkin or squash or ten cut sunflower stems.
Kids get a large play yard with a small animal barn, giant chess, a pea gravel pit and play houses, and a wagon ride runs through the patch. A food truck comes on Sunday afternoons and the patio pours cider and wine, with live music on Sundays until Halloween. Parking and the winery are free. The building has a ramp and the new wagon takes wheelchairs, though the grounds are uneven farmland. Pets aren't allowed.
Christel Lake Lavender in Greenbank is about 20 minutes west. Applewood grows some lavender too, sold in the winery as bouquets, sachets and pillow sprays.
