About Brooks Farms

Brooks Farms on Ashworth Road in Mount Albert traces back to Edward Brooks, who brought his family from England in the mid-1800s. In 1990 Alvin and Brenda Brooks opened pick-your-own strawberries and raspberries, pumpkins and the Fall Fun Festival followed in 1998, and in 2007 Kelly Brooks rebranded the farm with its Barnyard Bumpkins characters. The farm's 150-year-old barn was lost in December 2019 and has been rebuilt as an event venue.

Picking moves through the year: strawberries, raspberries and red and black currants in summer, then apples, squash and pumpkins in fall. Everyone six and up needs their own prepaid basket or apple bag, handed out at check-in. The 10-acre Barnyard Playland is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm, with wagon rides, pirate ships, jumping pillows, a spider-web climber, a giant sandbox, a singing chicken show and a splash pad in summer. Chickens, ducks, geese, pot-belly pigs, goats and sheep live in the barnyard from May to October.

In 2026 the Fall Fun Festival ran weekends from September 12 to November 1, plus Thanksgiving Monday, adding a corn maze, pumpkin cannon shows and live entertainment. The farm market and Shady Sheep Bites & Brews café are open 9 am to 5 pm, and the bakery is known for its gourmet donuts, which can be preordered by the box Thursday to Sunday. Spring brings a Maple Sugar Festival and Easter-Fest.

The Giving Place lavender farm is also in Mount Albert, about 5 minutes away, so a summer visit can pair berry picking here with the lavender fields there.
