About Gather Brewery & Glassworks

Gather Brewery & Glassworks puts a craft brewery and a hot glass studio under one roof in the village of Merrickville. The glass side grew out of Gray Art Glass, a family business Kevin Robert Gray started in 1985 and that his son Michael Gray now leads, and the business calls itself the first place in Canada to pair a glassblowing studio with a brewery.

Beer is brewed on site and poured in the taproom or sold in cans to go. House names include Dam Good Lager, Log Driver Canadian Ale, Glassblower's Assistant Hazy Pale, Big Pants Pilsner and Rusty Rambler Amber Ale. From your table you can often watch the glassblowers through a window into the hot shop, though studio hours vary and nobody is guaranteed to be working on a given day.

To make something yourself, book a private workshop with the studio's artist. The 20-minute session makes one piece, such as a pumpkin, paperweight, bird or ornament, and the longer sessions add drinking glasses. Workshops are for ages 10 and up with a parent or guardian present the whole time, and finished pieces need about three days to cool and be sanded before pickup or shipping. The kitchen serves tacos, flatbread and smash burgers Thursday to Sunday, with a smaller menu on Wednesdays, and the taproom hosts music showcases, beer style talks and paint nights.

Lavender Mills Farm in Oxford Mills is roughly 15 to 20 minutes east toward Kemptville, so a summer day can combine the lavender fields with a late lunch and a workshop slot in Merrickville.
