About Little Foot Alpacas
Little Foot Alpacas sits just outside Spencerville, about 40 minutes south of Ottawa. Shawn and Caroline Carmicheal run it as part of a fifth-generation family farm that also raises beef cattle and grows crops. Caroline's interest in alpacas began on a trip to Peru, and the herd is registered Peruvian Huacaya alpacas in a mix of colors. Shawn built the timber-frame barn himself from local, hand-milled wood.
Visits run Thursday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the farm closes Monday to Wednesday for chores. A one-hour farm visit costs $20 per adult and $10 per child, with children under 3 free, and is booked by request. Tours are kept private, for groups of up to six. The one-hour alpaca trek is $45 per person for ages 14 and up and is rated medium difficulty, while the newer mom-and-baby walk is an easy hour for ages 8 and up at $45 per person. Prices include HST and are paid in advance.
The farm store sells gifts and clothing made from alpaca fiber, and ice cream and snacks are on hand during visits. For a longer connection, you can adopt an alpaca for $25 a month, which includes four visits a month. Alpacas and handlers can also attend weddings and engagement photo sessions, and the farm hosts workshops and birthday parties.
