About Main Ridge Dairy
Main Ridge Dairy has been milking goats and making cheese on Main Creek Road since 2001, and it is still the only goat dairy on the Mornington Peninsula. The herd of more than 200 is mostly Saanen and Toggenburg goats, each one named. The dairy is now with new owners who kept the cheesemaking going, and in 2026 their ashed white-mold log, Capriole, was named champion cheese at the Melbourne Royal Australian Food Awards.
At the cheese counter you can taste and buy the range: Cashmere, a fresh spreadable curd; Capriole; Cilia, a Normandy-style camembert; chevre; feta aged in brine; and the semi-hard Capony and Caprinella. Billies, the on-farm café, serves toasties such as beef brisket or Reuben, soups, baked feta with focaccia, scones and savory scrolls, with a pasta lunch on Thursdays and Fridays that should be booked ahead. Grazing boxes and boards can be ordered for pickup.
Visitors can feed and say hello to the goats, which makes this an easy stop with children. In kidding season there may be a chance to cuddle baby goats, though it is never guaranteed. The dairy is open Thursday, Friday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday until 5 p.m.
Red Hill Lavender is a few minutes away in Main Ridge, so cheese, goats and lavender fields fit neatly into one Mornington Peninsula afternoon.
