About Ten Minutes by Tractor

Ten Minutes by Tractor started in the early 1990s with three vineyards in Main Ridge, high on the Mornington Peninsula, and has added more sites since. Owners Martin and Karen run the estate and its restaurant, which opened in 2006. The wines center on chardonnay and pinot noir, from the 10X and Estate ranges up to single-vineyard bottlings such as the McCutcheon Pinot Noir.

The cellar door is open every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday. A standard tasting of current 10X and Estate releases starts at A$15 per person, and a premium tasting covers single-vineyard and museum wines. For more depth, the Terroir Masterclass at 11 a.m. daily pours eight wines in a private room for A$120, and a Cheese and Wine Discovery of four pairings runs Friday to Sunday for A$65 (minimum two guests).

Cellar door dining is relaxed and wine-led, with seasonal small plates such as local olives, cheese, charcuterie, terrines, baked camembert and soups. The restaurant serves a seasonal menu built around local produce and wine pairing, with lunch Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 2:30 p.m. and dinner on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m.; summer hours from December 21 to January 31 change week by week. Tastings, cellar door dining and restaurant tables can all be booked on their website.

Red Hill Lavender is only a few minutes away in Main Ridge, so a tasting and lunch here pair easily with a lavender visit in the Southern Hemisphere summer.
