About Paumanok Vineyards

Paumanok Vineyards was founded in 1983 when Ursula and Charles Massoud planted vines on a former potato farm in Aquebogue, at the western gate of the North Fork. Ursula grew up in a winemaking family in Germany's Pfalz, and Charles brought a hospitality background from Lebanon. Their son Kareem Massoud now makes the wine. The estate is certified by Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing, has run on solar power since 2017, and in 2024 became the first farm in the Northeast to put an electric tractor to work. It was also an early user of screw caps on Long Island and released its first no-sulfite-added wine in 2015. Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc are among the wines it is known for.

The winery is open daily: Monday through Thursday noon to 5 p.m., and Friday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Groups of seven or fewer can walk in, while groups of eight or more must arrange a visit by email first. Indoor seating is open all year, and outdoor seating runs from May through November, weather permitting.

Seasonal plates include cheese and charcuterie boards, small plates and sandwiches, and outside food and drinks are not allowed. Pets may come along outdoors only, Monday through Friday. The winery also hosts weddings and dinners listed on its website.

Hoshyla Farms in Manorville is about 20 minutes west, and Lavender by the Bay's East Marion field is about 35 minutes east, so Paumanok sits neatly between two Long Island lavender stops.
