About The Philadelphia Tavern

The Philadelphia Tavern has served Philadelphia-style food on Main Street in Old Town Manassas since 1999. Carl and Mary Joseph opened it, bringing recipes and a 100-year-old bar down from Philadelphia. The tavern changed hands in 2015, is still family-owned, and finished renovations and additions in 2020. It is a few steps from the commuter rail station and a parking garage.

The cheesesteak is the headline, and the tavern gets rolls from Philadelphia's Amoroso bakery and beer from Victory Brewing, along with local breweries and distilleries. Mary's meatballs are another house favorite, and the menu runs to tavern food such as Philly chili nachos, wings, fried cheese curds, burgers and a Reuben. Tuesdays bring burger specials, and the tavern also runs a wing night.

There is indoor seating plus a large patio under an awning, which makes it a good stop after walking Old Town. The tavern is open late every day except Monday, so it works for lunch, an early dinner after a day in the country, or a later meal. Events are posted on its social pages.

Seven Oaks Lavender Farm in Catlett is about 11 miles southwest, roughly a 25-minute drive. Spend a summer morning at the farm's you-pick, then come into Old Town for a cheesesteak lunch on the patio.
