About The Next Chapter
The Next Chapter sits at 519 Main Street on the Jasper square, right beside the historic Astra theater. Erin and Jeremiah Smith opened it in April 2024 in a fully renovated former brokerage office, and it has become a coffee shop, bookstore and record shop under one roof. The shelves hold new and used books across fiction, nonfiction, cookbooks and children's titles, and bins of used and vintage vinyl cover a wide mix of genres. Candles, handmade jewelry and small gifts fill in the rest.
The drink menu goes well past drip coffee. There are pour-overs from single-origin beans such as Ethiopian, Rwandan and El Salvador, French press pots to share, espresso drinks, loose-leaf teas by the cup or pot, matcha, an African tea, and bubble tea in fruit flavors. Signature lattes include a White Lavender Latte, and the fall 2026 board adds apple pie, pumpkin pie and French toast lattes plus a chai-and-cider blend.
It is an easy place to spend an hour: a back room with windows onto Newton Street gives space to sit, and there is a children's reading area. The shop runs book clubs and reading groups, will hold a book for you for up to 48 hours if you call or email ahead, and sells gift cards in store. The owners have said that proceeds help a different local family or nonprofit each month.
White River Lavender Farm is about 8 miles north of the square. A lavender latte here before or after a lavender-season drive makes a fitting pairing; check the farm's open days first.
