About White Lace Inn
White Lace Inn is a bed and breakfast spread across four neighboring historic homes in Sturgeon Bay, joined by garden paths. The Main House, a Queen Anne Victorian completed in 1903, was designed by architect H.A. Foeller as a home for a local resident. Innkeepers Dennis and Bonnie bought it in a run-down state in 1982 and opened it as an inn that July, then grew the property over the next 14 years: an 1880s house moved onto the grounds became the Garden House in 1984, the Washburn House followed in 1986, and the Hadley House opened in 1996.
Rooms are furnished with antiques, Victorian and canopied plantation beds, and down comforters. Of the 18 rooms and suites, 15 have fireplaces and 12 have whirlpools, and each has its own heat and air conditioning. Names follow a garden theme, including one called English Lavender. A separate Steeple View Cottage is also available.
Breakfast is included and served at small tables for two or a long harvest table. The entrée changes daily, with dishes such as blueberry cream cheese stuffed French toast, plus muffins and a Scandinavian fruit salad, coffee, tea and juice. The inn shares many of its recipes. It is open every night of the year and also hosts small weddings.
Island Lavender, toward Baileys Harbor in northern Door County, is about 40 minutes north, so the inn works as a base for a summer day trip up the peninsula to the lavender fields.
