About Creekside Cheese + Creamery
Creekside Cheese + Creamery is the farm shop of Creekside Dairy, a certified organic Brown Swiss dairy in Agassiz run by the Treur family. The herd numbers about 90 milking cows, and all of the shop's milk comes from them. Cheeses are handmade and include curds, Gouda, Camembert, Feta, a garlic raclette and La Belle Vallee, an aged gruyere-style cheese. Everything is made from gently pasteurized milk.
The shop opens Thursday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the farm is closed to the public at other times. On Thursdays you can watch the cheesemaker at work through a window into the make room. During store hours, visitors can see calves, heifers and dry cows in the barns year-round, while the milking herd grazes on pasture from mid-April to early October. Gus the donkey, George the pig and the chickens live in the pasture behind the store.
Inside, the self-serve dispenser fills glass bottles with cream-top milk at $3 a litre (cash only). The shop also sells seasonal gelato by the scoop, lattes year-round, grass-fed beef by the cut, and local foods. Farmer-guided tours are offered now and then, usually on winter Saturdays.
Harrison Lavender is about 10 minutes away in Agassiz, so a Thursday to Saturday visit can take in both.
