About The Local Harvest Market
The Local Harvest began in 2013, when a Chilliwack family set out to grow food for their community. Over the next decade they turned a 37-acre parcel on Lickman Road into gardens and a farm market. The farm uses regenerative methods: reduced soil disturbance, cover crops, compost, and a wide mix of flowers, shrubs and trees planted to bring in beneficial insects. Fruit and vegetables are grown without sprays.
The market is open year-round, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. What is on the shelves follows the farm's seasonality chart, from early potatoes grown in an unheated greenhouse in spring to summer vegetables and farm-grown flowers. The store also sells compost and red wrigglers for home gardeners.
The kitchen bakes its own bread with organic flour and makes seasonal soups, sandwiches and salads fresh each day, so you can eat on the farm or pack a lunch. The regional farm tour guide lists wood-fired pizza on Saturdays, and the farm keeps alpacas and pigs and offers tours of its gardens. Long-table dinners are held on the farm, with tickets sold through its website.
Loveleigh Lavender Farm is about 15 minutes away, so a lunch stop here fits well with a summer lavender visit.
