About Currie's Farm Market

Currie's Farm Market on Sixth Street in Collingwood grew out of a basket of beans. In 1957 Barb and Edgar Currie gave away some surplus beans, the customer came back to pay, and their 10-year-old son Alvin started selling produce from a bench under an elm at the corner of Sixth Street and the Tenth Line. The family had bought the farm back in 1844. The stand became a trailer, then a portable market, then the permanent building, which Chris and Candice now run as the third generation.

The market is open daily from May through December 24. Early summer brings asparagus, strawberries and raspberries; later come peaches and cream sweet corn, tomatoes and potatoes, some from the family's fields and some from nearby farms. Produce that isn't pretty enough for the fresh tables goes into the Currie's Own line of jams and preserves.

Inside you'll also find fresh pies, bread and gluten-free baking, local cheese and dairy, and a meat counter with steaks cut to order, lamb, marinated meat boxes and burger boxes. In late fall the market sells freshly cut Christmas trees and holiday pre-orders. Regulars can buy a prepaid share card in spring that earns a bonus on market purchases; in 2026 a $250 card cost $237.50.

Purple Hill Lavender Farm near Creemore is about 13 miles south, roughly 25 minutes, so you can visit the lavender in summer and stop here for corn and pie on the way back to town.
