About Happy Valley Lavender & Herbs

Happy Valley Lavender & Herbs is Lynda Dowling's small lavender farm on Happy Valley Road, on the western edge of Greater Victoria. The first block of 500 Munstead plants went in during 1987, and the first harvest in 1988 filled two wheelbarrows. Today the fields are about 90 percent Hidcote and Violet Intrigue, with about 10 percent Maillette harvested separately. The farm specializes in sweet English lavender for scent and cooking, and also grows later-blooming spike lavender and lavandin.

The farm is no longer open to the public for drop-in visits. Visits are by appointment only, so call ahead. The lavender colors up in July, when it is harvested. Small amounts of fresh lavender are sold at harvest for $10 to $15 a bundle, dried bundles with the flower heads intact are ready in August, and most of the crop is now rubbed off and sold as loose buds by the pound. Dried bundles should be preordered in June, and loose lavender is also by preorder. The 2025 harvest sold out.

Lynda also teaches. In 2026 she offered hour-long garden consults for $150 plus GST, 2.5-hour site visits for $250 plus GST, garden club lectures, and workshops on lavender, homemade cosmetics, edible flowers and herbs, usually $75 per person including supplies. Workshops run on the farm, or she can travel to a group of four or more. Her website also has lavender recipes and growing advice.
