About House of Boateng Café

House of Boateng began in 2010 as a catering company in Saanich, founded by Chef Castro Boateng and run with co-owner Charlotte Boateng. In September 2019 the couple opened HOB Café, a brunch restaurant on Peatt Road in Langford, and about two years later they added a retail shop across the street. The kitchen works with Vancouver Island farmers, fishers and foragers, and its suppliers include Lockwood Farms and Sea Cider.

Brunch is served every day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The menu mixes West African dishes with brunch classics: the African Bowl pairs jollof rice with chicken sausage, scrambled eggs and pickled vegetables; fried plantains come with spiced beans, avocado and a poached egg; and huevos rancheros arrive with jerk chicken and Ghanaian-style beans. The sweet yam benny with mango-habanero hollandaise, harissa crêpes and merguez shakshuka round it out. Many dishes are gluten-free or dairy-free, and vegan versions are available.

HOB Retail at 2829 Peatt Road sells the kitchen's sauces, spreads and ready-made meals to take home, open Tuesday to Saturday. The café takes reservations only for groups of 8 or more, and a dinner series is moving to HOB Fine Foods.

Happy Valley Lavender & Herbs is about 10 minutes away by car, so brunch here makes an easy start to a summer lavender outing on the West Shore.
