About Sheringham Distillery
Sheringham Distillery makes small-batch spirits in Langford, on the western edge of Greater Victoria. Co-founders Jason MacIsaac, the master distiller, and Alayne MacIsaac, the CEO, built their first still in their home garage in Shirley, a Vancouver Island community originally called Sheringham. The company says it has won the world's biggest gin competition and has grown well past that garage.
Its best-known spirit is Seaside Gin, which gets a briny note from winged kelp harvested off Vancouver Island. The lineup also includes Beacon Gin, Fresh Lemon Liqueur, Fresh Rhubarb Liqueur and Coffee Liqueur. Their website shares cocktail recipes such as a lower-alcohol Seaside 75 and a Pimm's-style cup made with the lemon liqueur.
The tasting room offers a free guided tasting of the spirits, and no reservation is needed. It is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Tours run on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 10:30 a.m., with 25 tickets per tour. Advance booking is strongly recommended, and walk-ins are taken only if space allows. Their website also lists stores across Canada that carry the spirits.
Happy Valley Lavender & Herbs is about 10 minutes away by car. It offers bundles, loose buds and workshops by appointment, so a weekend tour here pairs well with a booked lavender visit.
