About Salt Spring Brewing Co.

Salt Spring Brewing Co. has made beer on the island since 1998. It sits at the end of a quiet farm road at the base of Mount Bruce in the Fulford Valley, with forest and fields around it. Every beer is brewed, canned and shipped from this one site, and the brewers use local and wild-gathered ingredients when they can. Heather goes into the flagship Heather Pale Ale.

The core beers are Heather Pale Ale, Golden Ale, ESB, West Coast IPA and an Earl Grey IPA. Beer comes in 473 ml cans, sold singly or as a mix-and-match four-pack, and some beers come in 650 ml bottles. Canned cider from Salt Spring Wild Cider is also sold here. The brewery fills 1-liter and 2-liter growlers, including clean growlers from other breweries.

The tasting room holds up to 35 people. A covered patio under a timber pergola seats 50 on wooden benches, and extra picnic tables go out when the weather is good. The snack menu runs from all-beef or veggie hot dogs ($7) and a local smokie on a bun to baked brie and canned sardines. Dogs are welcome, and children are welcome with an adult. The space can also be rented for private events.

Sacred Mountain Lavender, near Fulford Harbour at the south end of the island, is about 10 minutes away by car. A summer visit to its lavender beds pairs easily with an afternoon on the patio here.
