About Ciderworks at Salt Spring Apple Company

Ciderworks is the cidery of Salt Spring Apple Company, on Fulford-Ganges Road. Peri Lavender and Brian Webster bought the land in 2011 and spent five years planting it, grafting most of the trees by hand. The orchard covers just over 5 acres, with more than 3,500 trees in over 425 apple varieties, including old cider apples such as Brown Snout, Grindstone and Foxwhelp. The orchard and cidery are certified organic, and no sugar is ever added to the ciders.

The flagship and specialty ciders are grown, made and bottled on the property. Red Rebel is a sweet cider colored with organic blackberries from the farm. Oast House is a dry, scrumpy-style cider dry-hopped with Salt Spring hops. Serious is very dry and uses bittersweet cider apples, and Sky Blue is slightly sweet. A single-orchard series uses fruit from other certified organic Salt Spring orchards. Bottles were listed at CA$23.67 in 2026, and most of the cider is sold on the property or within 100 km of it.

The tasting room is in a renovated building that overlooks the orchard. A small food menu offers six-inch house-made pizzas, soft tacos with pulled pork or jackfruit, a hummus trio with house-made crackers and popcorn. The orchard and cidery tour costs $40 per person and includes tastings along the way and a short flight.

Lavender & Black, an organic lavender and helichrysum farm, is about 10 minutes away by car. Sacred Mountain Lavender, near Fulford Harbour at the south end of the island, is the other lavender farm close by.
