About Metchosin Farmers' Market

The Metchosin Farmers' Market is a small, producer-run market held every Sunday on the Metchosin Municipal Grounds in the rural district west of Victoria. It is run by the Metchosin Producers' Association, a non-profit, and the rule is simple: everything sold is homemade, handmade or home grown. Expect local fruit and vegetables, locally raised meat, fresh bread and baking, preserves, and crafts and textiles from people who live nearby.

The market runs Sundays from 11am to 2pm, starting on Mother's Day in May and finishing on the last Sunday in October. Early summer brings greens and berries, while late summer and fall bring the bigger harvest of tomatoes, squash and apples. A one-day Christmas market follows on the first Sunday in December, a good time to find handmade gifts and holiday baking.

The grounds themselves are part of the outing. Next to the market you will find the municipal pavilion, a cricket pitch where matches are often played on summer evenings, a riding ring built by Pony Club volunteers in 1987, and a bike jump park by the fire hall, which keeps older kids busy.

Bilston Creek Farm, a lavender farm with seasonal markets and events, sits on Metchosin Road just a few minutes' drive away, and Happy Valley Lavender & Herbs is also nearby, so a Sunday morning at the market pairs naturally with lavender.
