About Krieger's Farm & Orchard

Krieger's Farm & Orchard is Doug Krieger's fruit and produce farm on North Boatman Road, just outside Scottsburg. It is one of the few places in Scott County where you can pick your own berries, and it keeps about 30 beehives, so the honey on the shelf comes from the same land as the fruit.

The picking season opens with strawberries in May. Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and gooseberries follow as each crop ripens, and the farm also grows persimmons and pawpaws, two native fruits that are hard to find in stores. Crops depend on weather, so check their social pages for what is ready before you drive out.

Beyond the fields, the farm stand sells honey, eggs, jams, jellies and relishes. The county visitor bureau lists stand hours of Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and weekends from 1 to 6 pm. It is a small working farm rather than an attraction, which makes it a quiet stop for families who want to pick a few quarts and stock up on jam.

Sadona Farms, the artisan lavender grower on South Vienna Road, is on the other side of Scottsburg, about 15 minutes away, so berry picking here and a lavender visit fit into one morning.
