About Muscedere Vineyards

Muscedere Vineyards is run by brothers Fabio and Rob Muscedere and their family on land the family bought in 1986 outside Harrow. After soil tests in 2001 and drainage work in 2002, including the area's first wind machine to protect the vines from frost, they planted their first vines in 2003 and kept adding varieties through 2008. Their father Mario manages the vineyard, and sister Melissa is assistant winemaker.

Reds are the focus. The vineyard grows Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Pinot Noir, along with Barbera and Nebbiolo planted for Italian-style wines, plus Riesling, Vidal, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes are picked by hand and made in small lots.

The retail shop and tasting bar are open daily, with tasting flights served from 11 am to 5 pm for groups of up to six; larger groups should call to book a guided slot. From Friday to Sunday, the wood-fired pizza oven runs from 11 am to a 5 pm last seating until the final weekend in October, which makes this a good lunch stop.

Serenity Lavender Farm on the lakeshore is about 10 minutes south. In July, pair a morning in the lavender with a weekend pizza lunch here.
