About Rittman Orchards
Rittman Orchards is a family orchard and farm market on Mount Eaton Road south of Doylestown. Dale and Peg bought the farm in 2004, after decades of growing fruit in Ashtabula County and Washington state, and replanted its neglected orchards with their sons Chris and Matt. The market was rebuilt in 2005, and today Chris, Matt and Chris's wife Amanda run the farm and its sister cidery and winery, Bent Ladder, which opened in 2016.
Apples are the main event. Picking starts around mid-September with Golden Delicious and Jonagold, moves to Melrose in early October, Cameo, Fuji and Enterprise in mid-October and GoldRush and Pink Lady late in the month. In 2026 a peck bag is $17 and a half bushel $30; weekday bags are sold at the market, and on weekends picking moves to the top of the orchard, where bags are sold at a shed. Pumpkins are open October weekends at $0.55 a pound, with wagons provided, and sunflowers are cut by the jar or vase at Bent Ladder.
The market sells the farm's fruit and vegetables in season, along with a bakery case of cookies, brownies and pies such as Dutch apple and lemon crumb. The farm hosts school trips, and the family leads summer farm programs for children.
Lavender Trails, a four-acre lavender farm in Orrville with u-pick and a farm stand, is about 20 minutes south; check its open days on its website and pair it with a market stop for pies and produce.
