About Spirit Tree Estate Cidery
Spirit Tree Estate Cidery is run by Thomas Wilson and Nicole Judge, whose family has farmed in Caledon for four generations. In 2005 they bought a hayfield on Boston Mills Road dotted with wild apple trees, planted 2,500 trees in 15 varieties, added thousands more over the next three years, and opened in September 2009. The straw-bale building is heated and cooled with geothermal energy, and a wood-fired oven sits at the center of the bakery.
Pick-your-own runs on fall weekends from 10 am to 4 pm. McIntosh, Cortland, Gala, Honeycrisp and Empire ripen from late September to mid-October, followed by Golden Delicious, Mutsu, Northern Spy and Ida Red into late October. In 2026 orchard admission is $6 per adult (kids under 10 free, family maximum $25), apples are $2.75 a pound, and a short hayride tours the rows. Picking is cash only, with an ATM in the Farm Shoppe.
The bistro serves wood-oven pizza and dishes like schnitzel, alongside the bakery's breads and seasonal bakes such as an October pumpkin sourdough. Guided cidery tours run Saturdays and Sundays at 1 and 3 pm and include three cider samples. Weekends bring live music in the Cider Gardens, and artisan markets run through the season.
Avalon Lavender Farm in Mono is about 30 minutes north. In July, book a lavender visit in the morning and stop at Spirit Tree for lunch on the way back south.
