About Verger Trottier & Cidrerie des Générations

The Trottier family has worked this land in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, near the Oka abbey, since 1925, when Osias Trottier bought a property that was almost all forest. His son Josephat cleared it by hand with horses and planted apple trees wherever he could, and the orchard passed through Denis and André to Marc-André, the fifth generation. In 2020 Marc-André opened the Cidrerie des Générations, named for nearly a century of family work, making cider from apples grown on the property.

The orchard climbs a valley up the mountainside and looks out over Lac des Deux Montagnes. There are hundreds of apple trees, and visitors, children included, can wander freely among them. It is open seven days a week during the harvest, from mid-August to the end of October; the family asks visitors to contact them to confirm the exact start and end dates each year.

At the busiest point of the season a tractor ride carries pickers out to the trees. Organized groups such as schools, daycares, social clubs and businesses can request a package by phone or email, and the farm accepts text messages at its main number. The farm also has a shop; ask about cider and tastings when you call.

La Maison Lavande in Saint-Eustache is about 20 minutes east, so an August picking morning here and the lavender boutique in the afternoon make a full day near Lac des Deux Montagnes.
