About Domaine Gélinas
Domaine Gélinas calls itself the first commercial-scale vineyard in Mauricie. The Gélinas family has worked the vines for about 25 years, and the estate is run by Mr. Gélinas and his son Frédéric. Its best-known wines are the Cavaliers range. In winter 2020 Frédéric started a microdistillery, where a 400-liter still with two copper columns turns grape alcohol made on site into gins and a brandy.
The wine tasting is simple and needs no booking: four to seven wines, poured in an outdoor tent by an advisor for $12, in about 20 minutes. In summer the vineyard is open every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. From September 30 to December 20 the shop and tastings open Wednesday to Sunday, 11 to 5. Harvest usually starts in early October, and volunteers are welcome on open picking days announced in their newsletter.
In summer, Bistro Midi serves light dishes from local products every day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., first come, first served, on a terrace with wooden tables and string lights beside the vines. Desserts are made by Mrs. Gélinas. Reserved Soirées gourmandes sous la pergola, on some Friday and Saturday evenings, are set to return in summer 2027 starting June 12. Leashed dogs are welcome in the picnic area but not in the bistro, shop or tastings.
Passion Lavande is also in Saint-Sévère, about 5 minutes away, so it's easy to pair a lavender walk with lunch here.
