About Le Rieur Sanglier
Le Rieur Sanglier began as a student project: agroeconomist Nicolas Gauthier founded the farm in 1998, the same year the idea won first prize in a Laval entrepreneurship contest. It now raises more than 400 European-type wild boar from three bloodlines, with about 90 breeding sows, in large outdoor enclosures, and the farm also lists sika deer and bison. Everything is handled on site, from breeding to a certified butcher shop, kitchen and smokehouse.
Most visitors come for the farm counter. It is open Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment Monday to Wednesday. Expect fresh boar cuts, from roasts and chops to fondue slices and ground meat, plus sausages flavored with beer, maple, cheddar and bacon, or capers and olives. There are terrines, rillettes, cretons, old-fashioned smoked bacon, jerky, capicollo, ready meals and a seasonal three-game pie.
Groups can book the farm's medieval-style hall, opened in July 2013, which seats up to 90. Its set country menus feature boar, regional products and Mauricie beer or wine; for 2025–2026 they run $53, $65 and $79 per adult, and a méchoui roast is $56 per adult for 25 to 75 people. You'll also find their boar on the menu at La Bezotte in the village.
Passion Lavande in Saint-Sévère is about 15 minutes away, so it's easy to stock a cooler here and add the lavender farm to the same afternoon.
