About Miel Morand

Miel Morand is a honey producer on rang Saint-Charles in Saint-Thomas, a farming parish just outside Joliette. The regional tourism office describes it as a rustic spot where you can learn the basics of beekeeping, and the shop sells the farm's unpasteurized pure honey along with a line of foods made with it.

Inside, an observation hive lets you watch the bees at work behind glass, and interpretation panels explain how a colony makes honey. A tasting area lets you compare honeys before you buy. The shop is listed as open year-round, every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., which makes it an easy stop in any season.

Shelves carry honey vinaigrette, honey caramel, dark honey chocolate, mustards, port jelly, onion confit and chutney, plus other products from local farms. It's a short, low-key visit that works well with children, who tend to spend the most time at the hive. Visa, Mastercard and debit are accepted.

Les Jardins de Lavande Arômes et Saveurs in Sainte-Mélanie is about 20 minutes north. In summer, a honey tasting here and an afternoon in the lavender gardens make a relaxed loop through the Joliette countryside.
