About Ferme Vallée Verte 1912

Ferme Vallée Verte 1912 is a working dairy farm on rang Guillaume Tell in Saint-Jean-de-Matha, with mountain views around it. Brothers David and Samuel Gadoury grew up on the family farm and have worked on it since they were young. The milk for everything in the shop comes from their own cows, which rest on sand beds, have brushes to use whenever they like, and go to a milking robot when they are ready. They are fed hay and forage, with no GMO crops and no added palm oil.

The products are made in the farm's own plant. The Lait d'Antan is pasteurized at a low temperature and not homogenized, so the cream rises to the top, and there is a chocolate version too. The cheese counter carries cheddars, Parmed'Or and fresh cheddar curds, made every Thursday and usually ready around 2:30 p.m. Yogurts, maple products and other local foods fill out the shelves.

The shop is open every day of the year except December 25 and January 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Visitors cannot go into the processing area for food-safety reasons, but a window at the shop entrance looks onto the equipment and the cheesemakers at work. The farm no longer offers group tours. It takes cash, Interac debit, Visa and Mastercard.

Les Jardins de Lavande Arômes et Saveurs in Sainte-Mélanie is about 15 minutes south, so fresh curds from here make an easy add-on to a lavender visit in Lanaudière, especially on a Thursday afternoon.
