About La Terre des Bisons
La Terre des Bisons is a family farm of about 400 acres on chemin Parkinson in Rawdon, raising bison and wapiti (elk) since 1994. Co-owners Josée Toupin and Alain Demontigny bought the neighboring farm, which had been abandoned for nearly two decades, in 1992 and turned it into pasture for a herd that numbered more than 100 bison by 2021.
The visit is self-guided. An interpretation center on farmed big game has three indoor rooms with an exhibition space, and a 1.5 km discovery trail runs past the bison and wapiti pastures. For safety, visitors watch the animals from the trail rather than entering the pens. In summer the farm also runs guided tractor tours on set dates; in 2026 they were scheduled for July 11 and July 25 at 2 p.m. Hiking and snowshoe trails, a picnic area, a children's playground and a snack bar round out the grounds, and the farm takes part in the province-wide farm open house in early September.
The kiosk and on-site butcher shop sell bison and wapiti cuts, sausages, pâtés and tourtières, plus the farm's own TARTIN bison spread. The farm is open year-round, Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and no reservation is needed. Admission, plus tax, is $14.99 for adults, $12.99 for seniors 60 and up, $8.50 for children 6 to 12 and $44.99 for a family of four; children 5 and under are free. Leashed dogs are welcome outdoors.
Les Jardins de Lavande Arômes et Saveurs in Sainte-Mélanie is about 25 minutes east, so a morning on the bison trail and a summer afternoon in the lavender gardens fit easily into one Lanaudière day.
