About Lulu Island Winery
Lulu Island Winery belongs to John and Allison Chang, who moved from Taiwan to Canada in 1998. They opened Blossom Winery in Richmond in 2001, bought this land in 2006 and planted what they describe as the city's first vineyard. Lulu Island opened to the public on the Canada Day weekend in 2009. Pinot Noir and Muscat grow in the 10-acre Richmond vineyard, and icewine grapes come from the Okanagan.
The list ranges from a 2023 Rosé and a 2022 Muscat to an Okanagan Viognier late harvest and icewines made from Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. The retail shop and tasting room are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A seated tasting brings three generous pours with cheese and crackers. The Discovery Tour walks the vineyard and tells the winery's story, and the Estate Tour follows the wine from vine to bottle, ending with a longer tasting and a seasonal charcuterie platter. Bus tours for groups are booked by email.
In summer, a grapevine tunnel hosts Sunday picnic concerts with live music from 2:30 to 4:30, and tickets include a charcuterie box. Morning yoga classes come with a three-pour tasting. Through the fall the calendar adds paint nights and bingo. Pets are welcome, and children under 12 get into the picnic series free.
Lavenderland, a seven-acre lavender farm in Richmond, is about 15 minutes away by car, so a summer field visit there pairs well with a Sunday picnic concert here.
