About MacKinnon Brothers Brewing Co.
MacKinnon Brothers Brewing Co. sits on a bicentennial family farm just outside the village of Bath, about 20 minutes west of Kingston. The family traces its roots in the area to settlers who arrived in Upper Canada in 1784, and brothers Daniel and Ivan MacKinnon, with their cousin Ben Vandenberg, turned part of the farm into a brewery inside renovated century-old barns. Hops, malting barley and wheat for the beer are grown in the surrounding fields.
The taproom is on the lower level of the Old Barn, with casual indoor seating all year and a patio facing the fields in warmer months. The regular lineup includes Crosscut Canadian Ale, 8 Man English Pale Ale, Philomena Pilsner, Brothers House Ale and Philly Light, plus seasonal pours such as Red Fox summer ale and a Harvest Ale. Live music plays every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 pm.
The kitchen side is simple: 12-inch pizzas from a local pizzeria partner and shareable nachos, including a gluten-free version. The farm also runs a summer concert series at its grandstand, the Back to the Farm festival in August, a Holiday Market over two late-November weekends and seasonal workshops such as a wreath-making night in November 2026. The Old Barn is also a wedding venue.
To pair the stop with lavender, Violet Hill Lavender near Waupoos in Prince Edward County is about 50 minutes west, crossing the Bay of Quinte by the Glenora ferry. In July, make the lavender farm the morning stop and save the taproom patio for the afternoon.
