About Palmer Blueberry Farm

Palmer Blueberry Farm on Dame Road has supplied the White Lake area with blueberries since 1961, and it is now in its fifth generation. The farm grows many blueberry varieties, so what is ripe changes from day to day through the season, and it belongs to the state's blueberry growers' group.

The season usually runs July through August, depending on weather. You can pick your own straight from the bushes or buy berries already picked if you are short on time. Weekday hours are long, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays run to 4 p.m.; the farm is closed Sundays. The farm also makes its own specialty jam.

Mornings are the best time to pick, with cooler air and a better selection. The area visitors bureau suggests bringing a cooler, water, sun protection and comfortable shoes, and carrying cash in case there is no card reader in the field. It is a short drive from Whitehall and Montague and the White Lake shoreline, so a picking session fits easily before a beach afternoon.

Cherry Point Farm & Market near Shelby is about 30 minutes north. In July, when both blueberries and lavender are in season, a morning in the berry rows here and an afternoon walking Cherry Point's lavender labyrinth make a full day.
