About Rennhack Orchards Market

Rennhack Orchards Market sits on Polk Road about a mile east of US-31 in Hart, on a farm that has been in Joann Rennhack's family for more than 100 years. Dave joined the farm when they married, and in 1984 the family began selling sweet cherries from a small roadside stand. The current market building went up in 2006, and Jeremiah Palmer is now the fifth generation working the land.

Most of what is on the tables is grown on the family farm. Sweet and tart cherries lead off in early summer, followed by apricots, plums and peaches, then apples in fall, with Honeycrisp and SweeTango among them. Sweet corn, tomatoes and winter squash fill in from the vegetable side, and the market keeps a running list of what is ripe on its website.

Beyond fruit, the shelves carry jams, honey, maple syrup and breakfast cookies, and the staff put together gift baskets. The market opens in early June and stays open until December 23, so it also works as a stop for holiday gifts. It sits near the Hart trailhead of the Hart-Montague Trail State Park, which makes it an easy add-on for cyclists.

Cherry Point Farm & Market, with its lavender-edged labyrinth and herb garden, is about 20 minutes southwest toward Lake Michigan, so a summer loop can cover cherries here and lavender there in one afternoon.
