About Big Hart Brewing Co.

Big Hart Brewing Co. on West Polk Road in Hart brews beer, makes wine and serves a full restaurant menu, with a stated goal of showing off the farms and food of Oceana County. It is a sit-down stop for a meal as much as a taproom.

The house beer list covers a lot of ground: Sable Point, a Kölsch made with one malt and one hop; Dune Rail, an American blonde, and its blueberry version, Blue Dune; Workingmans, a pale take on German altbier; War Bride, a light English brown; Star Hill, a dry stout; and stronger beers such as the Pedal Steel red IPA, brewed with Michigan-grown Chinook hops, the Test Hill double IPA and the Collin's Full Size imperial IPA. A Märzen-style Oktoberfest called Bellows Shaker rounds it out. The house wines include a dry red, a nearly dry white blend, a Pinot Grigio fermented in stainless steel and a lightly sweet white, and a non-alcoholic beer is on the menu too.

The kitchen turns out wings, nachos, burgers, a brisket cheesesteak, a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and steak frites, with seasonal desserts such as pumpkin cheesecake. A kids menu with chicken tenders, grilled cheese, burgers and mac and cheese makes it workable for families. Big Hart also caters and runs a mug club.

Cherry Point Farm & Market near Shelby is about 15 minutes south. After walking its lavender labyrinth and herb garden in summer, come here for dinner.
