About Chimney Rock Winery

Chimney Rock grows and bottles estate Cabernet Sauvignon in the Stags Leap District, the short stretch of the Silverado Trail below the Vaca Mountains east of Yountville. Its white Cape Dutch-style buildings were inspired by South Africa's Western Cape, and the vineyards, farmed under a sustainability certification, catch the cool afternoon fog that the winery credits for its structured, elegant reds. The lineup runs to several single-vineyard Cabernets, Elevage blends and a Merlot.

The standard visit is Taste of Terroir, $75 a person for about 90 minutes on the shaded patio or in a private salon, depending on the season. Reservations are recommended, though walk-ins are taken when there is room. For more depth, the Single Vineyard Tasting compares Cabernets from individual blocks with artisan cheeses ($125, Thursday–Sunday at 11 and 2:30). The Vineyard Odyssey takes up to six guests through the vines in a touring cart, with views of the Palisades and a Cabernet tasting out in the vineyard ($195, Thursday–Saturday, weather permitting, 21 and over). A seasonal Thursday production tour adds barrel tasting ($145).

Dogs are welcome. Guests under 21 may come along on most experiences, but they must be counted in the reservation. The two premium tastings need 48 hours' notice, and fees are non-refundable within 48 hours. The winery also hosts private events and larger group visits.

HvH Specialty Growers, a Suisun Valley flower farm that opens for seasonal events including a lavender celebration, is about 30 minutes southeast over Highway 12, so the two can share a day when the farm has an open date.
