About Tulocay Winery
Tulocay Winery is a two-person, father-and-daughter winery on a 2-acre property just east of downtown Napa, in the Coombsville area. Founder Bill Cadman left a job on the floor of the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange in 1971, moved to Napa with his wife, Barbara, and learned the trade at Charles Krug, under Joe Heitz, at Clos du Val, and later at Beringer and Robert Mondavi. He crushed his first 9 tons for his own label in 1975, turning two outbuildings into the winery, and Tulocay calls itself the oldest continuously operating winery in the Coombsville region.
The wines are single-vineyard, single-variety bottlings, and Pinot Noir is the signature. The first Pinot came from the Haynes Vineyard, planted in 1966, and its vineyard manager has delivered grapes to Tulocay every harvest since 1975. Bill's daughter, Brie, grew up working on the bottling line, joined in 2012 and is now the winemaker.
Visits are by appointment only. In 2026 a tasting is $35 per person and covers four or five current releases, hosted by Bill himself, who styles himself the "Chief Entertainment Officer" and mixes in local history and humor. Book by emailing the winery or calling ahead. The drive out Coombsville Road follows quiet back roads lined with small wineries.
HvH Specialty Growers, a Suisun Valley flower farm that opens to the public for seasonal events including a lavender celebration, is about 25 minutes east over Highway 12, so check its event dates before planning both in one day.
