About Clif Family Winery
Clif Family Winery is the Napa Valley wine and food project of Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford, the couple behind Clif Bar. It began with growing food and harvesting olives, and today the family farms more than 90 acres of vines plus about 10 acres of orchards and olive groves on Howell Mountain and in the Oak Knoll District. The vineyards are certified organic, farmed with no-till methods, cover crops and grazing sheep, and the company is a certified B Corp. Laura Barrett is the winemaker.
The tasting room sits on Main Street in St. Helena. Three seated tastings run $50 a person: a seasonal flight paired with dishes from the farm's produce, a brunch-style Rise and Wine flight of lighter wines, and a Cab Drop flight comparing the two estate Cabernet Sauvignons. On Tuesdays any of the three is complimentary with a reservation. A vegan pairing or a mocktail flight can be swapped in on request, which helps if someone in the group is driving.
Without a booking you can still order wine by the glass and snacks on the patio. The Bruschetteria food truck parked at the tasting room serves Wednesday through Sunday, and you can order ahead on their website. The shop also carries the farm's organic nut mixes and fruit preserves. For a slower visit, the Enoteca on Vidovich Lane offers a chef-led seated tasting by appointment every day.
Bees N Blooms, the organic lavender farm with a walkable labyrinth west of Santa Rosa, is roughly 15 miles away as the crow flies, about 40 minutes over the Mayacamas on Calistoga Road and Highway 12.
