About Tamber Bey Vineyards

Tamber Bey is a Napa Valley winery that pours its wines on a working horse ranch on Tubbs Lane at the north end of Calistoga. Barry Waitte left the tech world for wine country in 1999 and released a first vintage of about 50 cases in 2001; he now runs the winery with his wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Kendra. The wines come from two estate vineyards, in Oakville and at the Deux Chevaux site in Yountville, and from partner vineyards as far apart as the Russian River Valley and the Sta. Rita Hills.

The ranch covers 22 acres with 17 pastures and paddocks. Its horses include rescues and retirees along with working endurance horses (Arabians and Mustangs), Argentine polo ponies and miniature horses. Tastings are held in a garden courtyard right beside the stalls, with views toward Mount St. Helena and the Palisades.

Every visit is booked ahead. In 2026 the Courtyard Experience runs $50 to $75 per person for groups of two to eight, and the 30-minute Equestrian Connection Tour ($75 to $100) adds a walk through the crush pad and barrel room and a stop at the stables. A Cabernet Sauvignon flight ($125) and a private Collectors Tasting of library wines ($150) are also offered. A cheese and charcuterie board can be added for $40, and a picnic lunch from a Calistoga general store can be ordered with 72 hours' notice. Outside food and drinks are not allowed. Everyone on the ranch must be 21 or older, so this is a stop for an adults-only day, and leashed dogs are welcome.

Bees N Blooms, an organic lavender farm with a walkable lavender labyrinth on the Santa Rosa side of the hills, is roughly 40 minutes southwest by car, which makes the two an easy pairing for a June or July day.
