About Wing Farms
Wing Farms has been in the Wing family since James Wing settled here in 1852, and Kevin Wing runs the 205-acre farm today as the fifth generation. Most of the land grows corn, soybeans and rye, and some of that grain goes to a Michigan craft distillery. Over the years the farm has raised sheep, beef and dairy cattle, and it is best known locally for its giant pumpkins.
Fall is the time to visit. The pumpkin patch opens on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from late September through late October, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and switches to self-serve for the last days before Halloween. Free hayrides run on the hour on Saturdays and Sundays out to the patch, and parking is free. Pumpkins, gourds and fall decorations are for sale.
The farm also raises turkeys for Thanksgiving orders, sells farm-raised beef and offers Christmas trees in season, and it has hosted holiday wreath-making workshops. Leave pets at home, since the farm asks visitors not to bring them.
Plainly Elegant Lavender lies about 6 miles to the southwest, but its season is June and July, so a fall visit here pairs better with a stop at its shop or a summer return for lavender bundles.
