About Door County Wildwood Market

Door County Wildwood Market is the farm store of a Century Farm half a mile north of Sister Bay, at Highway 42 and Wildwood Road. Adolf Carlson came from Sweden in 1846 and bought the land, John C. Carlson planted the first cherry trees in 1915, and the family has now farmed it for five generations. In 1945, German prisoners of war helped bring in the cherry harvest, and a restored room at the back of the store shows what an early migrant workers' apartment looked like.

Summer is cherry time. Pick-your-own sweet cherries, Balaton and Rainier, are sold by the pound rather than by the pail ($4.50 a pound in 2025), and they go fast. Tart Montmorency and Balaton cherries are sold too. In fall the farm switches to pumpkins and gourds, picked from the patch or already picked, along with pick-your-own flower bouquets and a field of sunflowers for photos.

The market stocks fresh cherries, tomatoes, strawberries and flowers in season, along with jams, honey and other locally made goods. From mid-July to mid-October the store is open Thursday through Sunday, with a self-serve stand on the other days, and it closes from November through May.

Island Lavender's farm on Highway 57 between Sister Bay and Baileys Harbor is about 10 minutes away, so a July cherry pick and a lavender stop fit easily into one morning.
